STUDENT VISAS

This is my Student Visa Information Page.

Americans have always admired and encouraged education. In fact, American history is replete with many persons of non-American origins who have taken advantage of our educational system and have achieved the American Dream by helping to create it!

By choosing this page you have indicated your desire to avail yourself of our freely accessible and ubiquitous educational facilities. It is not necessarily difficult to arrange for permission (a "visa") to be issued to you for your stay in the United States while pursuing the continuance of your education. However, the following minimal requirements for educational entry into the United States must be met:

Once you have received permission from the US Government to pursue your studies here you may also participate in postgraduate training work experience programs.

While you are here you may live in the US and may work up to 20 hours per week in an approved on-campus student employment program to help supplement your income and to further your educational experience. Remember: you must be here in the US for the purpose of pursuing a full-time course of academic study at an approved school. This type of visa is called an F-1 Visa.

You can also further your education here if you are an exchange student. This J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa is designed primarily for those students and professionals wishing to further their professional education in the United States. You must have a US sponsor who will proceed through an Exchange-Visitor Program designated by the US Information Agency (USIA) which is the government agency that oversees and approves all such programs. In general this program is open to the following types of student: students, research scholars, trainees, professors, physicians or medical graduates, teachers, and other miscellaneous international visitors. Also, you must return to your country for a minimum period of two years following the completion of your studies under this Visa before returning to the US again, unless a special waiver is granted.. This is a complex visa requiring a competent Immigration Attorney.

Other educational visa(s), such as a vocational school visa are also available to qualified students.
